Born in Bowden, Cheshire, England and lived with my family in Manchester until I emigrated.
After receiving a high school certificate from Chorlton High, I continued my education and received a diploma from the Union of Lancashire & Cheshire Institutes in Business and Secretarial.
In 1964 with emigration documents in hand I left the UK with plans to spend two years touring the United States before returning to England. My first stop was Baltimore, Maryland where I met and fell in love. Dennis and I have been married for 53-years, have two sons, and five grandchildren.
After moving several times between the East and West Coasts of America, our family relocated to California where we settled in Pleasanton. In 1972 I became a founding member of the DBE John McLaren’s Chapter in Northern California and in 2003 a founding member of the Roses of Britain Chapter. With the help of the DBE 30th Administration I was later able to combine these two chapters in 2008 to become the John McLaren’s Roses of Britain Chapter I’ve held all positions at the Chapter level.
In 1993 I was elected to serve as a member of the DBE Northern California State Board and held the positions of State President, 1st V.P., 2nd V.P., and Recording Secretary until 2011 when I was appointed to serve as the District Organizer for the Western District, upon completion of my term as Western District Organizer I was elected to serve another term as State President for DBE Northern California.
I was honored to have been elected at the 2016 DBE National Council Meeting to serve as the National President for the 2016-2019 term, and with great National Officers to work with me I feel we were able to achieve all of our goals. The work was challenging but rewarding.
Since completing my term as National President in May 2019 I have taken on the position of State President for the State of Northern California and am happy to work with other officers to rebuild the Northern California State.
